Listing Notices

Street Listing Notice

The Annual Street Listing forms are mailed annually to every known household in the Town of Charlemont. The Street List is used to compile the school list, dog list, and to maintain a census for the town. This information is also used when the town applies for grants and ensures that the town receives adequate State Funding which is based on the population. It is also important for the police and fire departments to know where residents are located for an emergency response. Please update the information if necessary, sign, and return the form in the self addressed envelope provided. If you have not received a form please contact the Town Clerk.

If the form is not returned, you may be removed from the active voting list.

Marriage Intentions

Except for a few exceptional circumstances, a couple wishing to be married must appear in person at the Town Clerk's Office to file marriage intention paperwork. Both parties must be 18 years of age or older, currently not married, and must show a valid ID that confirms age. Once completed, the intention paperwork is signed under oath.

Some of the information required includes legal name, last name to be used after marriage, social security number (if applicable), date and place of birth, and parent's current and last name at birth. The fee for filing the intention paperwork is $25.00 (cash or check). Marriage intentions are accepted during normal office hours or by appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.

Massachusetts requires a mandatory 3 day waiting period from the time the intention of marriage is filed before releasing the marriage certificate. A marriage certificate is valid for sixty (60) days from the date the intention is filed and may be used for a ceremony conducted in any Massachusetts city or town.

The marriage certificate must be picked up before the ceremony and given to the Officiant (Justice of the Peace, Clergy, or one-day solemnizer). The Officiant must complete the solemnizer portion of the marriage certificate and return it to our office within ten (10) days.

Download the fillable Intentions Form here!

Additional copies of marriage certificates are $10 each.

Birth and Death Certificates

All certificates can be obtained in person with cash or check, or requested by mail with check. Always check with the town clerk to make sure the certificate in question is filed in Charlemont before sending your request!

A business certificate creates a public record of the name and address of the owner(s) of a business.
